In the event that you are prompted with "more information is required" loop kindly complete the online form and proceed with stating the issue of re-registering for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
Using a private or incognito browsing window is a best practice during account setup to ensure that no old cookies or cached data interfere with the process.

Disclaimer:
Warning: Removing your Microsoft Authenticator account will break the link between your device and your Microsoft 365 (or work/school) account for multifactor authentication. This may temporarily prevent you from signing in until you re‑enroll your MFA method. Only remove your account if you are experiencing issues (such as persistent errors, lost or misconfigured credentials, or troubleshooting an MFA problem). If you are not encountering any issues, it is recommended to keep your current MFA configuration intact. Always consult your IT administrator or support team before making changes if you are unsure.
Why Remove an Account?
Reregistration: If an account’s MFA configuration is causing issues, removing it allows you to reregister from scratch.
Security: Clearing outdated or unused accounts minimizes potential security risks.
Troubleshooting: Removing and then readding an account can help resolve issues with notification prompts or code generation.
For iOS Devices Open the Microsoft Authenticator App: Locate and tap the Authenticator icon on your home screen. On the main screen, you’ll see tiles for each account. Access Account Options: Swipe Method: Swipe left on the account tile. In many versions, a red Delete button will appear. Menu Method: Alternatively, tap on the account or the threedot (•••) icon usually shown near the account tile to open a context menu. Tap Remove account (or Delete account). Verify Removal: The account tile should no longer appear in your list. | For Android Devices Open the Microsoft Authenticator App: Tap the app icon from your app drawer or home screen. On the main screen, each account appears as a separate tile. Tap the threedot (•••) icon or longpress on the account tile to reveal options. When prompted, confirm that you want to remove the account. Verify Removal: Ensure that the account no longer appears in your Authenticator app. |
Additional Troubleshooting Tips
App ReInstallation: If removal via the above steps does not work as expected, consider uninstalling and then reinstalling the Microsoft Authenticator app. This can clear any residual settings.
Clear App Data (Android): On Android devices, you can clear the app data via Settings > Apps > Microsoft Authenticator > Storage > Clear Data. (Note that this will remove all accounts, so use with caution.)
Check for Updates: Ensure that you are using the latest version of the Authenticator app, as updates may improve the management and removal of accounts.
Restart Device: Sometimes a simple restart can refresh the app’s state and allow removal actions to take effect properly.
