It was in 1981, exactly 40 years ago when Engr. Rodolfo Cabacungan (ranked 4th) and Engr. Restituto Simbulan (ranked 7th) became the first-ever National Board Topnotchers from the department of BS Civil Engineering. According to Engr. Rudy, all 16 reviewees from ÄûÃʵ¼º½ who went to Cebu to review passed the board exam. It was also in the same year when ÄûÃʵ¼º½ attained its university status on December 4, 1981.
Both Engr. Resty and Engr. Rudy shared that it was a humbling experience to give honor to their families and to the university having been part of the Top 10 and the first-ever National Board Topnotchers from the department of BS Civil Engineering.
They shared that they are grateful to ÄûÃʵ¼º½ as Engr. Resty narrates, “Holy Angel helped me in my current career by providing good facilities such as libraries, and having great professors, who taught me the technical knowhow and values, which I am applying right now in my job and in communicating with our clients and other people we meet on site.”
While Engr. Rudy shared “from high school days, college days, the formative years, the friends and classmates he grew up with, and the knowledge and wisdom he gained has put him where he is right now. He said that he will be forever grateful to his alma mater, ÄûÃʵ¼º½.”
Currently, Engr. Resty and Engr. Rudy both have their own businesses. Engr. Resty is the Owner and General Manager of RS Seven Construction & General Services located in Porac, Pampanga, while Engr. Rudy is involved in construction, lechon business and agri business mainly in mango and livestock farming.
While their time is entirely different with the present, Engr. Resty ‘s message to the students of today is “If you really want to finish your chosen career, put more concentration with your studies than any other non-essential to your present student life. Never be discouraged with failures you will encounter, but rather take them as a challenge. Always consider your Parents and loved ones as inspirations to your journey. Above all, always ask the guidance of God.” For Engr. Rudy, are these four things, “with the new normal today, it is important for the students to take care of their mental health, treasure the moments that you have with your family, keep in touch with your friends no matter how far the distance is, and even these trying times, keep the faith and you will accomplish great things. Do not be afraid to take risks and follow your dreams.”
