“Almost five decades, from 1974 to 2020, I journeyed the world of engineering. It began in Holy Angel College, where I was given the right training, molded my character and the mindset to pursue excellence. The school motto ‘Laus Deo Semper’ is one of my guiding principles”, shares Engr. Romeo (Romy) Censon.
Engr. Romy, who was a former scholar of ÄûÃʵ¼º½ earned his degree in BS in Civil Engineering in 1979.  As he shares his college experiences at ÄûÃʵ¼º½, he remembers that it was during his first year in college, second semester when out of the 150 students under the Geometry subject only three students passed, and Engr. Romy joined the majority who failed.  He added, “with that incident, that pushed me to study harder, coming to library early to study before the college evening classes, and surely, no more easy-going student.  During my second year (2nd semester), I already qualified as an academic scholar and became one of the representatives of the Engineering Department’s College Student Council.”
Right after his graduation in 1979 and passing the BS Civil Engineering board exam, Engr. Romy worked in different engineering firms.  He first worked at Asiatic Consultants Inc. (ACI) – a small engineering consulting firm formed by Filipino engineers specializing in dams, hydraulics and water resources engineering.  After nearly working for 2 years at ACI, a new opportunity opened for Engr. Romy.  He applied at Hydro Resources Contractors Corporation (HRCC) as a Sr. Computer Programmer.  In September 1983 – the youngest at the age of 25, Engr. Romy joined HRCC’s construction team of 300 plus management, staff and technicians sent to Central Java, Indonesia where HRCC won the international bidding to building 105-meter high rockfill-clay core Wadaslintang Dam, and where he supervised the Electronic Data Processing (EDP) Section.
Come 1998, Engr. Romy was hired by PT Brantas Abipraya Persero (PTBA), an Indonesian government-owned construction company, HRCC’s local partner in the construction of Wadaslintang Dam.  In October of 1991, he went back to the Philippines and was hired by JGC Philippines (JPHIL) as a Sr. Cost Engineer.  JPHIL is a subsidiary of JGC Corporation based in Yokohama Japan, specializing in Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of plants in the oil and gas industry. In JPHIL, he reached the positions of Department Manager of Construction and Project Management departments. He eventually transferred to JGC Construction International (JCON) in Singapore as a Sr. Contract Manager. Overall in JGC group, he was assigned to several countries like Japan, Singapore, Indonesia and Bahrain.
Last August 31, 2020, Engr. Romy shared “my Engineering journey ended.  It started in Holy Angel College and ended in my home (work from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic).  Along the way it was challenging but fulfilling at the same time.”
Engr. Romy is now happily retired, and he may have experienced hardships on his journey to success he wants the students of today to “take one step at a time and always Praise God Always, in your journey.  God bless and Laus Deo semper!”
